Wayne Jacob’s

“Sunday brunch or lunch with a smokin’ selection of their own meats & fabulous fare to take home”

Wayne Jacobs is an unassuming little spot in LaPlace, LA, less than 20 miles outside of New Orleans, toward Baton Rouge; in the heartland & capital of Andouille territory. Started in 1950 Wayne Jacob’s has carried on the family tradition offering excellent quality “artisanal-smoked meats & fresh sausage.” The restaurant is a family spot serving lunch during the week & Sunday brunch; all with amazing flavor, flair, & value. They do it with pizazz mon ami!

Using many of their own smoked meats in their recipes, on any given day you may see fresh fried seafood platters & po’boys alongside specials like the white beans cooked down with their own fresh sausage. Savory shrimp & crab “pudding”, their own super smoky rack of baby back ribs, smoked chicken, & one of my favorites; the seafood gumbo, I keep it in my freezer just in case! Don’t even think about starting any meal without the appetizers; Andouille “chips, thinly sliced Andouille sausage deep fried till crunchy (& addictive); boudin balls fried & tender, & fried artichokes. I know, there’s a lot of frying going on but it’s Louisiana folks!

Sunday brunch is a must! The star of the show on our visit was the Soft shell Crab Benedict; two beautifully (& perfectly) poached eggs atop 2 large fried soft shell crabs, with a scrumptious “lick your plate” hollandaise sauce, served over “cracklin’” biscuits (yes, they have pork cracklin’s baked in to their biscuits!), with a side of Andouille bacon.  Seriously? Yes, seriously.

Dessert, I know, who could even think about it after that meal but as my husband always says, “you don’t leave room for dessert, you make room for dessert.”  Hmmm, king cake bread pudding, or Peach Cobbler. Both! You can always take it home….

Service is down home, friendly, and well timed. It’s a place for lunch with friends, co-workers, &/or family. It’s comfortable & easily accessible from I-10 or Airline Hwy.

From “the market” you can take home your choice of a tremendous menu of smoked meats like their amazing jerky, smoked chickens, Andouille sausage in all shapes & sizes, as well as other sausage made from pork, duck, deer, chicken, turkey, & even jalapeno cheese. Right now their fresh made smoked hotdogs are in season, along with prepared ready to go products like gumbo & chili.  And on Tuesday and Thursday there are freshly made cracklin’s; meaty & crispy all in one. (It’s insane!) You can call & order for shipping too. They now also have their own fresh local raw honey & farm fresh eggs for local pickup.
